Possible Vacation Savings

Many people will be foregoing their family vacations this year because of the current economic climate.Others, however, are determined to enjoy a vacation, but are looking for ways to save money while still having a great trip.

Flexibility is probably the main key to saving on a vacation. Investigate several possible scenarios for you and your family. You will then be able to choose the one that’s right for you and your budget. Consider alternate sites for your vacation. Be flexible with travel times, especially if you are flying. You can often save hundreds of dollars just by switching a flight from Sunday, a very busy day, to Tuesday, the slowest day for the airlines.

Visit websites for airlines, hotels, and local points of interest and register for e-mail notification of special offers, etc. Also, consider contacting a local travel agent. Although they earn a fee, they often have access to better deals than you can obtain on your own so that, in the long run, they can save you money.

Consider driving to your destination. This eliminates airline costs and, with gas prices much lower this year, the savings could be substantial. Also, pack a lunch, snacks, etc. for the trip and you’ll be able to avoid restaurant costs while traveling.

If you plan to use frequent flyer points to book a flight, it is necessary that you plan very early. Popular flights are often full months in advance for the allowable number of seats that can be occupied by frequent flyers.

By planning your vacation during the “off peak” season, you can save on almost every aspect of it. Often the weather is still very enjoyable, hotel rates should be down, and restaurants will most likely be offering lower prices for meals.

VACATION RENTALS

One of the most inexpensive ways to take a vacation is to form a group and rental a home. Many families do this over the summer, but some also rent for the holiday season and invite the whole family to celebrate with them. Either way, a vacation rental could be the answer to the vacation you want at a price you can afford.

If you are trying to locate a rental online, be sure to book through a reputable site. Be sure your site provides pictures, contact information and insights from past renters. You want to know how others enjoyed this property.

Vacation rentals can often come with hidden fees so you should be aware that there could be charges for additional guests, pets, house cleaning, web access or air conditioning. Confirm move-in and move-out dates and payments schedules before signing a contract You might also want to consider vacation insurance if there is any possibility that you will need to cancel. Most renters will not accept any form of cancellation within 30 days of your stay and will not issue any sort of refund.

Group housing is very cost-effective but does have the potential to drive you crazy. The best way to avoid problems is to have everything put in writing. Spell out all details such as scheduling to sleeping arrangements to how costs will be shared. If you are planning on having different groups of parents and children, please remind everyone to refrain from offering parenting advice. Each group should handle only their own children.

POSSIBLY PREVENTING MARRIAGE PROBLEMS

Couples get married, buy a home and begin a family. All is well but, eventually, some small issues arise. Sometimes the small issues are blown out of proportion. People tend to think that marriage should be synonymous with happiness. That is not always the case. It is necessary for both parties to work at a marriage. A good marriage does not just happen. It takes work, negotiations, compromises, and a real respect for your partner to make a successful marriage. Love is not everything. If you are experiencing marriage problems, consider the following as possible solutions:

One of the most important issues in a marriage is communication. Consider taking the time to write down your goals for your marriage and encourage your partner to do the same. Plan to sit down and discuss these goals with your partner. Each of you should listen carefully to what the other says.

Be sure that there are many things you “like” about your spouse. Be specific and comment on them frequently.

Set dates and times to discuss issues with each other. Don’t go into things when you are angry. Wait until you have cooled down and have your discussions at the pre-appointed time.

It is always a good idea to plan date nights together. Hire a babysitter and take turns making the plans. The spouse in charge of planning should consider what the partner would most like to do and plan events around that. The goal would be to make the other person feel like you are really trying to please them.
